VFR Generation X Scotland Now Shipping
Horizon is proud to announce the release of the first in a series of five photographic and terrain scenery enhancements for Microsoft Flight Simulator X that will ultimately provide complete coverage of Scotland and its outlying islands. Adding to Horizon’s existing range of VFR Generation X products covering England & Wales, Volume 4 – Scotland: The Western Isles, is available for immediate shipment.
The Western Isles includes ultra-high definition aerial photography and terrain scenery, synthetic night textures, enhanced water effects, and a number of other features, which combined create a highly-realistic and immersive virtual environment for Flight Simulator enthusiasts to explore when recreating flights over Scotland.
The Western Isles (also known as the Outer Hebrides) is both unique and diverse in its terrain, making it some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK... Tall, steep, sea-battered cliffs, rugged mountains, sandy beaches, industrial towns, small fishing ports, farmland, and huge tracts of unspoilt countryside, strewn with thousands of lakes and rivers characterise the stunning landscape and offer a wealth of features to explore.
For the desktop pilot, The Western Isles also boasts one of the world’s only operational beach airports, Barra, presenting a welcome challenge to those virtual aviators who’ve seen it all before! It’s also home to coastguard helicopters that undertake dangerous rescues in the treacherous North Sea, and provides a valuable training area for the UK’s military helicopter and fast jet pilots – The Western Isles is part of ‘Low Flying Area 14’, and plays host to an ‘Air Weapons Range’ on the island of Benbecula.
Features out of the box include:
- Ultra-high definition (60cm/pixel) photographic scenery rendering pin-sharp textures at altitudes above 400ft.
- Highly accurate (5m/post) terrain mesh that accurately depicts every lump and bump of terrain, including river channels and road cuttings.
- NEW night scenery (hand edited at 60cm/pixel) with accurately positioned point lights and the diffuse glows they cast on the ground around them.
- Intricately detailed, semi-transparent water effects that provide realistic water colours individual to each body of water, and showing sub-surface features like sand banks and shallows, which are normally visible from the air.
- Enhanced default airports that blend with the photography and terrain seamlessly, meaning no cliffs, plateaus or misaligned default runways.
With all this to enjoy and retailing at the recommended price of a little under £30, VFR Generation X: Scotland - The Western Isles, is a must have part of your UK photographic scenery collection.
